So, you need new soffit

Updated: Jun 5, 2021

Your home was built about 20 years ago. You had a new roof installed but you realize the eves and overhangs on your home have rotted from heat and condensation venting from your attic. The most overlooked & taken for granted area of your home is the soffit & fascia.

I never even heard of soffit & fascia until My roofer brought it to my attention.

We had a new roof installed a few years ago. The roofer pointed out that much of the soffit wood has rotted & must be replaced. You then find out that roofers don't do this type of work. Over the years you have had your house painted. The painters sprayed or rolled the vented soffit with paint. This clogs the vented soffit panel & your attic no longer has proper ventilation.

why does my attic need to be vented?

The attic area of your home gets super heated from the sun beating down on your roof. The air conditioning in your home also forces all of the hot air to the ceiling of your home & into the attic. At night the super hot air in the attic cools down and the ac in your home creates condensation in the attic. This condensation must be able to escape the attic thru the vented soffit area. If the soffit ventilation is clogged, or is insufficient the condensation creates mold in the attic area. This mold can cause health problems for the home as well as the occupants of the home. A super-heated attic area also causes high electric bills due to the ac unit in the home working desperately to cool the home.
